Dual battery systems |
|
GQ Nissan Patrol Dual battery system, we fit the biggest battery possible. This system uses a smart solenoid to charge the second battery, with the engine turned off the secondary can be used for accessories like a fridge, lights, radios etc. While isolating the crank battery, when the engine is started the engine increases it’s rev’s and the alternator charge voltage charges above 13.5 volts the solenoid automatically starts to charge the second battery. When the engine is switched off the voltage drops below 12.5 volts and the solenoid automatically isolates the 2 batteries. |

SMART SOLENOID or IGNITION FEED SOLENOID |
|
Smart Solenoid In photo 2 the smart solenoid is located on the in guard as close to the main battery as possible. It has a red LED light that illuminates when solenoid is connected. The smart solenoid also has diode protection which means it is perfectly safe for all EFI engines. These smart solenoids usually retail for $175.00 The batteries we mainly supply with a dual battery systems are made by Power Crank, they are mainly deep cycle or calcium depending on their main use. With every dual battery system we fit a fuse box so you can plug straight into to power your accessories. If you want extra power outlets through-out the vehicle we can also fit them for you. If your vehicle is very cramped under the bonnet with other accessories like LP Gas converters or shower systems we can modify or move them to suit the battery carrier. Modifications are not a problem.
Ignition feed Solenoids Ignition feed solenoids are good for diesel or carby engines, they are a cheap alternative. These solenoids need an ignition power supply to activate. The only thing I don’t like about these solenoids is if you leave the ignition key switched on it can flatten both crank and accessory batteries. I like to think the smart solenoid is idiot proof. An ignition feed solenoid also has to have silver contacts and be able to be turned on for a long period of time, I have seen starter motor solenoids fitted to dual battery systems, they are no good, because they get too hot and could cause an electrical fire, do not use them for this purpose. |
